Stinger systems serve as spare conductor rail for suburban-
and underground-railway vehicles in the area of depot- and maintenance
systems. Instead of the normal supply by means of the third rail the
power supply in these areas is effected by a current collecting trolley
which is travelling in a ceiling-mounted conductor bar. By a connection
cable this trolley is connected with the vehicle which is equipped with
corresponding arbors.
The standard lengths of the conductor bars are 3 resp. 6 m. The current collecting trolley is running on 4 plastic rollers and 2 contact pieces for each 100 A. The connection cable is equipped with a vulcanised plug serving as connection for the movable machine and a fixed-soldered pendular attachment for the current collecting trolley.
